Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal Friday sacked party’s Awadh zone convenor Aruna Singh and Hardoi treasurer Ashok Kumar for allegedly demanding money in lieu of a Lok Sabha ticket.

In a press conference, Kejriwal said the two demanded money from prospective candidates in exchange for party tickets.

“After receiving the complaints, we looked into evidence and found the allegations to be true,” Kejriwal said, adding no financial transaction actually occurred.

The complaint was levelled by one Rajesh Kumar, a ticket aspirant for Misrikh Lok Sabha, who had alleged that Aruna had sought Rs 10 lakh in lieu for a ticket.

Aruna had met Rajesh in Hardoi a few times. Rajesh then reportedly conducted a sting operation.

Kejriwal said the party matches the voice and looks if the footage is raw or edited before arriving at a conclusion.

Aruna Singh, meanwhile, said that “I was on my way and came to know (about Arvind’s decision) through the media. I’ll sit down and see what it’s about.”
